Location and Light
Learning to plan a great photography trip is one of the best ways to improve your photography. We all study the topics of composition, camera settings and editing to develop our skills as photographers. However, the ability to make good decisions about where and when to shoot can put that knowledge to better use. Understanding location and light will get you in front of better scenes with your camera, allowing you to get the most from your existing abilities and inspiring you to develop new ones.
I’ve travelled to more than 50 countries with my camera. Most of my adventures have been for one or two weeks, and I’m used to getting the most from short adventures between other priorities. While my advice can help any traveller find better scenes to shoot, it’s most effective for anyone who wants to get more from a limited time on photography.
This 200+ page guide contains everything I’ve learned from twenty years of photography travel. It includes methods for researching new locations, advice on optimising your travel plans for photography and techniques for judging the best place to shoot in different conditions. It’s everything I know about using the time you have for photography travel more effectively, and getting better shots while you develop your skills.
